A post pre-Cuboree camp update for Pack 405.
1. Six / Pack / Sub Camp Theme
As we discussed on the pre-Cuboree camp our Pack theme is Islands of the Great Barrier Reef
Can you send me a copy of the final list from Friday Night as I didn’t manage to jot down a copy. I noticed that some of the sixes were using these names on the weekend, do we have a mapping of name to six colours?
Leader ~ Colour - Island (Sixer)
Brenda E. ~ Dark Blue - Daydream Island (Sixer= Morgan)
Karen/Kristen ~ Light Blue - Orpheus Island (Sixer= Nathan T.)
Simon ~ Purple - Great Keppel Island (Sixer = Christopher)
Becky/Brenda F-S. ~ Red - Magnetic Island (Sixer = Bradley)
Glenn ~ Green - Hamilton Island (Sixer=???)
2. Camp Sites
Camp sites are settled. It will be a bit tight in areas but it’ll work OK.
Cuboree 2008 Site Map [DRAFT] and Directions(Stradbroke Base Map)
Sub Camp 4 is down Peppermint Drive below the abseiling tower.
NOTE: There will be no electricity available to the Packs so remember the spare batteries.
3. Walk your Site - Sunday 16th March
Important to meet out at Gilwell to “walk your site”.
Pack Akelas: Meet on Sunday the 16th March at 12:00pm at the abseiling tower.
Line Leaders: Meet on Sunday the 16th March at 02:00pm at the abseiling tower - and other members (parents, etc) of your setup team.
Please come with the following information;
- Number of youth by gender
- Number of Leaders by gender
- Type of tents to be used (Dome /Auto)
- Size (ground space required) of tents and shelter.
Some (larger) sites will have two Packs on them, so it would be good to consolidate the shelter between both Packs on these sites.
Can you send me the details on your tent allocations and their approximate sizes; I know that;
i.) Diamond Creek is using ‘Jamboree style’ tents for their Cubs
ii.) 2 x Diamond Ck. leaders are in a smaller tent
iii.) Research is attempting to get tents that match the Diamond Creek models.
iv.) Plenty Cubs (male) are in an 12′ x 18′ Auto?
Baggy if I take my big tent that I used on Saturday night at Cuboree you can upgrade from your dome tent if this ok with you?
4. Camp Set-up
* We are NOT allowed on site until after 4 pm on Friday 28th (not 6 pm as has been described elsewhere)
* Friday night BYO tea - we will look at a central point for supper for those in camp which I think will be a positive.
* After 8 pm on Sunday evening 30th March 2008 - there will definitely be NO ALCOHOL ON SITE until 6 pm on Friday 4th April. (see: Branch alcohol policy)
Setup Teams
I advise you to get some commitment from Leaders (not really the ones attending Cuboree – other Cub Leaders, Scout Leaders…), parents etc to go to Gilwell on the Sat or Sun prior to Cuboree and setup the camps. You will need another team, perhaps some or all of the first team to come down and pull the camp down afterwards. With the exception of perhaps you coming to supervise on the setup, try not to include line Leaders as they will be tied enough at Cuboree and away from family, it is necessary therefore to have at least one person who will be at setup to come to break the camp as well so they know what to get and where it is. I hope my ramblings make sense. — Marshall
5. Pack Gateway
Some discussion at Pre-Cuboree camp regarding the gateway and matching it to the theme.
A suggestion was to use a tropical fish shower screen as the entry.
We will also try and obtain posters and extras via QLD tourism for the site.
We can discuss this more via email.
6. Previous Cuboree 2008 - Pack 405 - Notes
There will be an archive of the notes available from http://rikkiresources.wordpress.com/category/pack405/ so you have access if you don’t have your email. Personal details (email address, phone numbers, surnames, etc.) are removed from the online version.
7. Camp Out Badge - where do you get it?
The Cub Scout ‘Camp Out Badge’ has been amended to prepare cub scouts for camping and especially Cuboree 2008.
The badge is worn on the uniform with the specialist badges which are worn on the right sleeve.
Cub Scout Leaders will approve the badge and apply to: Gwen Gray, 52aCamp Street, Beechworth, 3747, with the cost ($1.00 per badge) and a stamped addressed return envelope.
