AAAARRGH! ONLY 13 sleeps until Cuboree 2008 “World of Wonders” starts!
Dory: Hey there, Mr. Grumpy Gills. When life gets you down do you wanna know what you’ve gotta do?
Marlin: No I don’t wanna know.
Dory: [singing] Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming. What do we do? We swim, swim.
Marlin: Dory, no singing.
Dory: [continuing] Ha, ha, ha, ha, ho. I love to swim. When you want to swim you want to swim.
Marlin: Now I’m stuck with that song… Now it’s in my head.
Dory: Sorry.
1. Camp Sites
Camp sites are settled. It will be a bit tight in areas but it’ll work OK.

Pack 406 (red) – top end of site #19 [Photos on Flickr]

Subcamp showing Pack sites. “UP” is along road towards abseiling tower

A very rough sketch of the Pack 405 camp site to tie in with the photos and how the site can be put together.
2. Hessian Wall
At least along road side, and dividing the campsite between two packs
Put up using star posts with caps (strength) + tomato stakes (height) and cable ties (glue). I’ll supply the materials. This will be installed on the set-up Saturday.
{There was Hessian available from the Cuboree stores for the activity bases last Cuboree, will need to check if we can nab some from there}
3. Gateway
The gateway … top end of camp site. Banner between poles tied onto trees. Some beach sand brought up on the setup Saturday in the truck. Two palms one each side of the gateway. There are also some QLD Tourism posters for on the tree. Small “clam” pool?
We may also have some fish shower screens to hand down from the poles.

“I IZ AN ART1ZT!”
An update from Brenda E. regarding decorations;
FYI – Kristen (the art teacher in the group), is having great fun and has come up with heaps of ideas. “Great Barrier Reef” is so easy compared to some of the other sub camp themes.
So far she has
We were also thinking of randomly hanging some large laminated fish and sea shapes around the camp, they would be plain and there for using permanent texta use them for signs or notices to the Cubs.
[snip]
If we could get a little kids pool we could also have a fishing game for the cubs to use during free time (or when we need to distract a cub that is not in a great mood) – using fish with paper clips attached to them and the lines would just need to be sticks with a string and a magnet attached. Or even in the $2 type shops you can buy the fishing games, but we would need a pool to contain it all and make the look right.
[snip]
If we have any more ideas then we will let you know, but I think that we can aim to have the best decorated campsite at Cuboree. Kristen is also going to be up there before us due to private travel arrangements so I am sure that the site will be well and truly decorated by the time we arrive.
We have $200 for the pack via the pre-Cuboree camp. I’ll get one of the plastic clam wading pool setups – use one half for the game and one for the front gate.
4. Tea towels
In some tips from Lynda on Wednesday night it was suggested that line leaders collect the tea towels for their line and doll them out one at a time for drying purposes. This way grotty unhygienic tea towels are not put back in with eating gear to ferment.
You may wish to add a few spares from the $2- shop into your kits?
5. Ponchos
For Carnivale night we need to make ponchos. Should we get a bolt of material or should we get sheets from savers?
Via Brenda E;
(…) Has thought of a fantastic and easy idea for the Carnivale night using the Clear Ponchos that you can get for $2 from discount shops and we can turn into Jelly Fish for the evening, (it is quick and really simple). (…)
JELLY FISH … oh yeah!
Marlin: [Surrounded by jellyfish] This is bad, Dory. Very bad.
Dory: [Bouncing on top of a jellyfish] Hey, watch this. Boing! Boing!…
Marlin: Dory!
Dory: You can’t catch me!
Marlin: Dory, don’t bounce on the tops! They will… not sting you. The tops don’t sting you! That’s it!
Dory: Two in a row. Beat that.
Marlin: Dory, listen to me. We’re going to play a game.
Dory: A game?
Marlin: Yeah, a game.
Dory: I love games! Pick me!
Marlin: We’re gonna race. First one out of the jellyfish wins.
Dory: Out, got it!
Marlin: Rules, rules! You can’t touch the tentacles, only the tops…
Dory: Something about tentacles, got it.
Marlin: No, it’s not something about them, it’s all about them.
Dory: On your mark, get set, go!
Marlin: Wait, Dory!
6. Setup Crew
I know we have a crew from Plenty and Diamond Ck. Brenda F-S – have you been able to tee up some assistance for you tents?
From Brenda E.;
I have a fantastic contingent of Parents to assist with the set up at Cuboree and we are building on our list for pack up (as long as the gear gets back close to home, I don’t really care).
